Looking for the perfect gift for a book loving mum this Mother's Day? You're in the right place!

I’m going to be honest with you. If your mum is reader, there’s only one thing she really wants this Mother’s Day. Apart from seeing you, she wants a quiet afternoon on the couch with a cup of tea and her book. She wants an afternoon with no laundry, no questions about what’s for dinner, and nothing else but to disappear into her book. And like any booklover, don’t think that just because she has a book on the go she doesn’t need another one. Please! Part of the joy of reading is anticipating what the next book will be. Here are a few suggestions we think your mum will really enjoy!

For the mum who loves a page-turner try Click by Sarah Bailey. This is a high-stakes, edge of your seat thriller about a journalist and a rookie detective racing to uncover a killer who isn’t hiding but playing with the media and police.

If your mum has ever juggled too much or quietly put everyone else first (LOL, insert every mum here), The Angry Wives Club by Gabbie Stroud is the book for her. This is a darkly funny domestic noir about three women in a picture-perfect coastal town who, fed up with the quiet compromises of marriage, decide to take matters into their own hands — with explosive consequences.

If a country getaway is more your mum’s vibe we recommend Where There's Smoke by Karly Lane. This is a heartfelt second-chance romance about a wedding planner whose life is upended when a man from her past reappears—as the groom—bringing with him a secret that could change everything.

If you want to choose a book your mum can suggest to her book club try Start at the End by Emma Grey. This is the story of Audrey and Fraser, whose love is shattered by a single tragic moment, leaving them separated by grief, guilt and a lot of ‘what ifs’. This is an unexpected gem with so much heart and the kind of book that invites a long conversation afterwards.

Foodie mums will love Delicious by Kate Legge, a warm reflection on how food binds us to people and places, tracing memories through kitchens, friendships and shared tables. It also includes recipes from the stories shared in the book.

If your mum appreciates honesty (and has a good sense of humour about the passing of time), then she’ll love Look After Your Feet by Rosalie Ham. Ham is the bestselling author of the The Dressmaker and has now turned her trademark wit and shrewd observations to life itself. This book is full of advice about all manner of things (like the fact that cheese and wine for dinner is welcome and acceptable… we knew it!) and celebrates the wisdom that comes in later life.

For the dog-loving mum can we suggest Good Boy by Michelle Wright. In 1997, a prison inmate named Cookie joins a rehabilitation program for abandoned dogs and forms a bond with an anxious dog he names Good Boy, whose fate depends on passing a behavioural test. As the dog struggles, Cookie is pushed to confront his own past and decide how far he’ll go to save him. Give it to mum with some tissues (although we promise this is safe for the dog lovers).

And now one we know all book loving mums will adore: The Bookshop of Buried Pasts by Sarah Clutton. When beloved bookseller Phyllida Banks disappears, her granddaughter Lottie is left with a cryptic clue: “Find Francis”. What follows is a mystery that stretches from a small Australian village to an English bookshop with a hidden past.
And there you have it! A wonderful bunch of book recommendations your mum (and you) will love! All of these great reads are all available right now at your bookstore of choice.
