Check out our list of books to read this Long Weekend.

We have been counting down the days until the public holiday next week… sorry, not you QLD or WA 😓. But whether you have a 3 or 2 day weekend coming up, winter is well and truly here and we are commencing hibernation mode as of now.
Here are some of the books we’ve been reading that we HIGHLY recommend you add to your reading pile, from one friend to another! 💖
A Beautiful Family
by Jennifer Trevelyan

If this book isn’t on your reading pile yet then please, for the love all things bookish, RUN to your bookshop immediately and grab yourself a copy. Told through the eyes of a ten-year-old teetering on the border between childhood and adolescence, this is a mystery about a missing child told against the backdrop of a family struggling to hold itself together. It’s a ‘disappear into the pages and read in one sitting’ kind of book that you will hold close to you after you’ve turned the last page.
Nightshade
by Michael Connelly

How can an author who has written 40 books just keep getting better and better? Honestly, we don’t know but we thank the universe because Michael Connelly has a new book out AND it’s a new series! Hooray!!! Meet Detective Stilwell, a principled Los Angeles County Sheriff's detective reassigned to the tranquil Catalina Island after clashing with his department. It’s a quiet little place where not much happens until a woman's body is discovered and Stilwell suspects foul play. Every Connelly book is a guaranteed 10/10. And this is no exception.
The Confidence Woman
by Sophie Quick

If you’ve watched all the docos about Belle Gibson and remain obsessed with con artists, this book is for you! Dr Ruth Carlisle is an executive coach to many wealthy clients who share with her their darkest secrets. What her clients don’t know is that she’s actually a single mum in suburban Melbourne trying to buy a home…. Until her carefully built scam starts to unravel. This is a bitey, dark and hilarious read!
The Remarkable Truths of Alfie Bains
by Sarah Clutton

If you loved The Midnight Library and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine you’ll love this book (and nine-year-old Alfie who is the heart of it!) Alfie lives in Ireland with his mum but when a medical emergency forces her to reveal they have family in Tasmania, Alfie is thrust into the mystery of his identity. As he navigates the quirky town of Beggars Rock and meets the Australian relatives he's never known, Alfie becomes determined to uncover the truth about his father. A delightful, feel-good read that will leave you wanting to give Alfie a huge hug at the end.
Whisky Valley
by Joan Sauers

Rainy weekend? Check. Snuggled up in a blanket with a cup of tea? Check. The new book by Joan Sauers? Check. Nobody writes a moody mystery like author (and script writer) Joan Sauers and Whisky Valley will keep you guessing to the last page. When a famous violinist vanishes with his priceless instrument, amateur sleuth Rose McHugh is drawn into the mystery, just as floodwaters rise and her own son falls under suspicion. Another delicious book to devour in one sitting.
New Skin
by Miranda Nation

If you’re after something a little darker and emotional, New Skin is a powerful debut novel about first love, heartbreak and second chances. Set against the backdrop of 1990s Melbourne, it follows the intense, on-again-off-again relationship between medical students Alex and Leah as they navigate passion, betrayal, and the lasting imprint of youthful love. Tender, raw and deeply nostalgic.
You can find all of these books right now at your bookstore of choice!
Happy long (or normal sized) weekend everyone!
