Author Jack Heath pens a letter for readers of his next twisty, whodunnit Kill Your Boss.

Kill Your Boss by Jack Heath

Dear Reader,

Have you ever had a terrible boss? Like, really, truly awful? So bad that you were

tempted to, say, push them off the roof and frame a colleague for the crime?

Well, I haven’t (and good luck proving otherwise). But I have written plenty of

locked-room murder mysteries, and I’ve learned that the victim shouldn’t be too

likeable. Yes, readers want the detective to crack the case and bring the killer to

justice—but we also want to enjoy the murder itself. Don’t pretend you don’t know

what I’m talking about. These books are only fun if the victim kind-of-maybe had

it coming, at least a little bit.

In my last book, the victims were two lying husbands. This time around, Detective

Sergeant Kiara Lui is investigating the death of someone even worse than a

husband—a boss. Neville (or ‘Mr Adams’, as he liked to be called) ruled the

public library with an iron fist, enjoying the power he had over the archivists,

volunteers and borrowers. That makes everyone in the building a suspect. Kiara

has outsmarted killers before—but can she outsmart a librarian?

In case you’re curious, I couldn’t find any real-life examples of librarians who

have been convicted of murder (not even in Florida). This makes perfect sense,

because public libraries are full of books about crime. Librarians can access all

the information they need about police procedure, evidence tampering, corpse

disposal and more.

So, enjoy Kill Your Boss. Next time you’re at the library, be nice to the staff. Tell

them Jack Heath holds them in the highest regard. And, whatever you do, don’t

go upstairs to the roof.

Sincerely,

Jack “Employee of the Month” Heath
